I believe that work is a good gift that God gives to man. Work began right from the beginning of creation. In fact, the creator of the universe who is God himself introduced work. The bible says in (Genesis 1:1-31) that God worked continuously for six days and then rested on the seventh day. This is a typical example for us to know how God puts value on work.
When he created man (Adam and Eve) he placed Adam in the middle of the Garden of Eden and told him to dress it and keep it. Adam was also given the power to control everything that was on earth, Genesis 2:15, “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.”
It is a must that we work to make a living. It is only when we work that we can have income to take of ourselves and our family. “You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you” (Matthew 5:16). The hand that does not work does not eat.
Work requires patience and instruction
The fact that work is a good gift that God gives to man does not mean we have to work anyhow. There should be a plan in how we have to work. In the first place we must look for instructions on how to work. These instructions may be what work we have to do, when to start, where to go, who to work for and others. Since God is the one who created us and know the reason for our existences we must go to Him and ask Him what He has for us. In Jeremiah 1:4 -5 the bible says, “Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” Jesus also said in John 9:4 that “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” This shows us that work is instructed by God ((www.gotquestions.org).
On other hand, we must understand that work is not an easy thing to do. We don’t have to think that because God gives us instructions about work, it is always going to be easy. We will face a lot challenges and hard times but we must exercise patience. No matter how much experience or skills we have, we cannot do any job without patience. Patience is a virtue. The only way we can keep our work forever is to have patience. This is the same everywhere whether in a private business or public sector. It may be tough and look like we cannot make but God will be our help.
Work done with excellence glorifies God
The following three Bible verses supports that work done with excellence glorifies God. “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” 2 Thessalonians 3:10, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established”, Proverbs 10:4. “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God,” Ecclesiastes 9:10.
The only way we can receive blessings from what we are doing is to do it with our strength and do not think our reward is from men. When we get the understanding that we are doing it for God, then the glory goes to Him and therefore the blessing will come down from Him.
The problem we have today is everybody has become human centered and we have taken God out of the equation. We feel we used our own strength or money to go school to study or learn the trade we are in and therefore we must look for the reward for ourselves. But we must remember what the bible says in Deuteronomy 8:17-19 “Otherwise, you may say in your heart, ‘My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’ “But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. “It shall come about if you ever forget the LORD your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish.
