The importance of Godly counsel

The importance of Godly counsel

Do you accept correction well? Why or why not? If so, how has godly correction helped your walk?

Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days. Proverbs 19:20

Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” (KJV).

I used to be very angry when somebody tried to correct me. I liked to stay away from people who always tried to point out my mistakes. I thought they were very mean to me. I would yield to friends and others who would always say Prince it is alright; just go ahead, we back you up. They would never say what I did was wrong. I thought those were the people that loved me.

I was in my own world until I became a Christian and the word of God began to show me my mistakes. When I went to church and the word of God was so strong, I thought somebody had told the preacher my story and he was using it to preach. I became very sad until I went home.

However, the word of God kept ringing in my heart until I changed my ways. Little by little, I saw myself changing from the way I used to do things. I have grown to know that godly counsel is the best that one can get. It is better for someone to counsel us to change from our bad habits than to encourage us to do things anyway and anyhow.

The bible says in Proverbs 12:1 that “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid”. It is through rebuke and correction that one can receive knowledge. It is always not comfortable to receive discipline but it pays. I have seen that bitter medications bring a lot of healing to the body that sugar coated ones.

I have seen the difference between those who listened to godly counsel and those who did not yield to it. I am so blessed that I listened to pastors and men of God in my life. I will continue to do so and see my life improve day in and day out.
